Goth Makeup
Dark and dramatic: a black smoky eye edged in plum, kohl all around, sharp brows, cool contour and a matte black-cherry lip.
When to wear it
Wear it to a gig, a club night or a dark-themed party, or any day you like your makeup black. It is for you if you skip blush and want cool shadows under the cheekbones. The pictures show it on fair skin with red hair, on a round face with brown eyes and on deep skin.
Shades

- Creasedeep plum

- Lipsmatte black cherry
How it's done
A matte, well-powdered base with cool grey-mauve contour under the cheekbones and on the temples, and no blush. Brows sharp and defined in a dark brown-black. A matte black shadow packed on the lid and blended up into a deep plum in the crease with a smoky edge, the same black smudged all along the lower lash line and joined at the outer corner. Black kohl in the upper and lower waterlines and a sharp black wing drawn over the shadow. Heavy black lashes. Lips lined and filled in a matte black-cherry lipstick with a crisp edge.
Questions
- How do I keep black eyeshadow from looking patchy?
- Pack the matte black onto the lid with a flat brush, pressing instead of sweeping. Then blend the edge up into deep plum in the crease with a clean fluffy brush, so the black fades into colour instead of stopping in a hard line.
- What contour goes with goth makeup?
- A cool grey-mauve, not a warm bronzer. Put it under the cheekbones and on the temples over a matte, well-powdered base, and leave out blush so the only colour on the face is the plum and the black-cherry lip.
