Makeup for almond eyes
Almond eyes are longer than they are tall and taper to a point at both corners, and the outer corner often sits a little higher than the inner one. The shape is balanced, so almost any liner or shadow works on it. The real choice is the effect you want, a long wing that stretches the eye or a rounder line that opens it.
The pictures show our looks on a woman with olive skin and almond-shaped hazel eyes. Siren Eyes stretches the wing straight out, Fox Eye Makeup tilts it steeply up, and Cut Crease cuts a sharp edge of concealer across the lid. Try them on your selfie and compare the wings on your own eyes.

- Start the liner thin at the inner corner and build it thicker over the outer third, which follows the taper of the almond shape.
- For a longer eye, keep the wing level instead of lifting it, and join it to a soft brown smudge under the outer lashes, as Siren Eyes does.
- For a lifted eye, angle the wing up more steeply and add lashes only at the outer corners, as in Fox Eye Makeup.
- For a rounder eye, keep the liner thickest above the iris and stop it at the outer corner with no wing.
- Put shimmer on the centre of the lid and a deeper matte shade in the outer V. The crease on almond eyes is usually easy to see, so a blended crease and a cut crease both show.
- Tightline the upper waterline under any wing, which fills the gaps at the lash roots.
Questions
- What eyeliner style suits almond eyes?
- Almost any. A classic wing that follows the lower lash line upward is the easiest. Siren and fox wings both work, and so does a doe-eye line that stops at the outer corner.
- How do I do winged eyeliner on almond eyes?
- Look straight ahead and mark a dot where your lower lash line, carried on, would reach the end of the brow. Join the outer corner to the dot, connect the dot back to the middle of the upper lash line and fill in the triangle.
- How do I know if I have almond eyes?
- Look straight into a mirror. If your eyes are wider than they are tall, taper at both ends and show little or no white above or below the iris, the shape is almond. The outer corners often tilt up slightly.
