Makeup for small eyes

Makeup for small eyes is mostly about where you put light and dark. Dark liner all the way around the eye closes it in. A pale shimmer in the inner corner and along the lower lash line brings light to it. Curled lashes and liner kept tight to the lash line add definition without covering the lid.

The pictures show our looks on a woman with light skin and small monolid eyes. Korean Makeup and Douyin Makeup both brighten the lower lash line with a pale shimmer and a faint shadow line beneath it. Try either on your own selfie to see the shimmer on your lower lash line.

Tips for small eyes

  • Tightline the upper waterline with a waterproof brown or black pencil. It darkens the lash roots without taking up any lid space.
  • Line the lower waterline with a nude or beige pencil, not black. Black there shrinks the white of the eye you can see.
  • Dab a pale shimmer in the inner corner and along the inner half of the lower lash line. Korean Makeup takes it the whole way along for a puffy under-eye.
  • Keep your darkest shadow on the outer third of the eye and blend it out and up, not around the eye.
  • Curl your lashes and wiggle the mascara wand at the roots. Add a coat to the lower lashes, or draw them in as fine spikes the way Douyin Makeup does.
  • Keep upper liner thin and thicken it only at the outer corner, extending it a few millimetres out.

Questions

Should I wear eyeliner on the lower lash line if my eyes are small?
Keep it to the outer third, or smudge a soft brown shadow there instead of a hard pencil line. A full ring of dark liner around the eye makes it look smaller.
Do false lashes help small eyes?
Light, wispy lashes do, especially ones that are longer at the outer edge. Heavy, thick strips can weigh down the lid and hide it. Individual or cluster lashes on the outer half add length without the bulk.
Is white eyeliner good for small eyes?
White works for a bold, editorial look, but it can look stark in daylight. A nude or beige pencil close to your skin tone brightens the waterline more softly.
