Eyeliner looks

Five liner looks, each drawn a different way. Siren eyes run the wing long and level toward the temple, with the inner corner drawn down to a point. Doe eyes stop the liner at the outer corner and keep it thickest above the centre, so the eye looks round. Fox eyes angle the wing sharply up and keep lashes at the outer edge only.

Winged Eyeliner is the classic flick, a black line that thickens toward a sharp wing. Cat Eye Makeup makes that wing thicker, fills it in solid and joins it to a line under the outer lashes. Try two of them on your selfie and compare the shapes on your own eyes.

Which eyeliner look suits your eye shape

  • On hooded eyes, keep your eyes open while you draw, so the wing lands above the fold where people can see it. Winged Eyeliner has a picture on hooded blue eyes, and Siren Eyes has one on hooded green eyes.
  • On downturned eyes, angle the wing up toward the tail of the brow instead of following the lower lash line down. Winged Eyeliner and Siren Eyes each have a picture on downturned brown eyes.
  • Almond eyes suit all five. For a wing, follow the angle of your lower lash line out past the outer corner. Siren Eyes and Fox Eye Makeup each have a picture on almond-shaped hazel eyes.
  • On monolids, draw the line thicker than looks right with your eyes closed, because the lid covers part of it when they open. Fox Eye Makeup and Doe Eye Makeup each have a picture on monolid eyes.
  • To make round eyes look longer, pull the line outward as Siren Eyes does. To make narrow eyes look rounder, keep the liner thickest above the iris, as Doe Eye Makeup does.
  • On deep-set eyes, keep the line close to the lashes and the lid light. Cat Eye Makeup has a picture on deep-set blue-grey eyes.

Questions

What is the difference between siren eyes, doe eyes and fox eyes?
The direction of the line. Siren eyes run a long wing straight out toward the temple. Fox eyes angle it sharply up. Doe eyes have no wing at all and keep the liner and lashes fullest over the centre of the eye.
What is the difference between winged eyeliner and a cat eye?
Size, and the lower line. Winged eyeliner is a single line that thickens into a sharp flick. A cat eye flares a thicker, lifted wing, fills it in solid and adds a thin line under the outer lashes that meets its tip.
Which eyeliner look is easiest for a beginner?
Doe Eye Makeup, since its thin brown liner stops at the outer corner and there is no wing to match on both sides. Winged Eyeliner is the next step, with one flick per eye.
