Makeup for a round face

A round face is about as wide as it is long, with full cheeks and a soft jawline. You can follow that shape or add some angles to it, and placement decides which. Contour goes under the cheekbone at a diagonal, blush sits above the apples, and highlight runs down the centre of the face.

Every picture below shows our looks on two women with round faces and brown eyes. Latina Glam and Full Glam use strong contour under the cheekbones. Korean Makeup keeps the cheeks soft and puts a peach-pink blush high under the eyes. Put any of them on your own selfie to see which approach you like.

Tips for a round face

  • Suck in your cheeks to find the hollow under the cheekbone. Blend a matte contour along it from the top of the ear toward the mouth, stopping below the outer corner of your eye.
  • Angle the contour up toward the ear rather than running it straight across. A rising line adds a diagonal to a soft, curved cheek.
  • Add a little contour at the temples and just under the jawline, and blend it down into the neck so no edge shows. Full Glam contours along the jaw as well as under the cheekbones.
  • Place blush above the apples and sweep it up toward the temple. Blush in a circle on the centre of the cheek adds roundness, while blush placed higher draws the eye up.
  • Highlight the top of the cheekbone, the centre of the forehead and the chin. A line of light down the middle of the face adds length.
  • Give your brows a defined arch. Latina Glam uses a sharp, filled arch, which adds an angle above the eye.

Questions

Where should I put blush on a round face?
Above the apples, on the cheekbone, blended up and out toward the temple. Smile to find the cheekbone, then place the colour just above and behind the roundest part of the cheek.
Do I have to contour a round face?
No. Contour is a choice, and plenty of looks leave the cheeks soft. Korean Makeup, on this page, puts the attention on dewy skin and a peach-pink blush high under the eyes instead.
Where can I see the shades a look uses?
Every look page on TryOnMyLook lists the look's shades and shows the look on several different faces, with different skin tones, eye shapes and ages. Press Try it on your selfie to see it on yours.
