Goth and alt makeup looks

Three alt looks, two dark and one bright. Goth Makeup packs matte black shadow into a plum crease, rings the eye in kohl and finishes with a matte black-cherry lip on cool, blush-free skin. Emo Makeup smudges thick black kohl all around the eye into a smoky ring, with a flash of pink above it and a pale lip.

Euphoria Makeup is the bright one, with a violet wing, a floating blue line above the crease, rhinestones under the lower lashes and holographic glitter. Try a dark look and the bright one on your selfie and compare them side by side.

Goth and alt makeup tips

  • Choose cool contour over warm bronzer. Goth Makeup and Emo Makeup both shade the cheeks in grey or grey-mauve and skip blush, which keeps the skin pale next to the black.
  • Kohl in the waterline smudges by itself as the day goes on. Go over the lash-line pencil with black shadow on a small brush, which softens the edge and helps it stay put.
  • For a black-cherry lip, line the whole lip first, then fill it with a matte lipstick and blot. Dark colour shows every wobble, so trace the edge with concealer on a fine brush.
  • Both dark looks use defined, filled brows. For goth, fill them in a dark brown-black and clean under the arch with concealer so the shape is sharp.
  • For Euphoria-style liner, draw bright liquid or gel liner over a sheer shimmer so the colour shows true. Stick the rhinestones on last, after the mascara.

Questions

What is the difference between goth and emo makeup?
Goth makeup is sharper and more polished, with a black lid blended into plum, a crisp black wing, sharp brows and a black-cherry lip. Emo makeup is messier, with kohl smudged all around the eye, clumpy mascara, a flash of pink and a pale nude lip.
What is alt makeup?
A loose name for styles outside mainstream glam, such as goth, emo, grunge and bright graphic liner. This page has three of them, Goth Makeup, Emo Makeup and Euphoria Makeup.
Can I try an alt look I saw on TikTok?
Yes. Add a screenshot from TikTok or Pinterest, or paste an Instagram post link, together with your selfie. The try-on adds only the makeup, so you see the black liner or glitter on your own face in about 20 seconds.
