Makeup for hazel eyes
Hazel eyes mix green, brown and gold, often with an amber or brown ring around the pupil and green toward the edge. They can look greener in one light and browner in another. Your shadow colour changes which part shows more. Purples and pinks bring the green forward, and gold, bronze and copper pick up the warm centre.
The pictures show our looks on two women with hazel eyes, one with olive skin and almond-shaped eyes, one with medium skin and freckles. Euphoria Makeup puts iridescent lilac and a violet wing on the lid, Gyaru Makeup uses warm brown with gold shimmer, and Prom Glam pairs rose gold with plum.

Eyeshadow and liner tips for hazel eyes
- To bring out the green, put plum, aubergine, mauve or lilac on the lid or in the crease. Purple sits opposite the yellow-green in hazel, so the green looks stronger next to it.
- To bring out the gold, use bronze, copper, gold or a warm caramel. Press a metallic onto the centre of the lid with a fingertip so it catches the light right above the iris.
- Olive, khaki and moss shadows pick up the green flecks. Choose one deeper or more muted than your iris so it doesn't compete with it.
- Swap black liner for brown, bronze, plum or deep olive in the daytime. A softer line lets the mix of colours in the iris show, and black suits a sharper evening wing.
- Peach and warm pink on the cheeks and lips suit both the green and the gold. Igari Makeup puts a rosy pink-red blush high under the eyes, shown on almond-shaped hazel eyes.
- Check a new shade in daylight before you commit. Hazel looks browner under warm indoor bulbs, so a colour that brings out green at home can look different outside.
Questions
- What eyeshadow colour makes hazel eyes look green?
- Purples and pinks, such as plum, aubergine, lilac, mauve and rose. These contrast most with the yellow-green in hazel. Burgundy and red-brown work too, because red is opposite green.
- What eyeliner is best for hazel eyes?
- Brown or bronze gives a soft line that lets the green and gold show. Plum or deep purple brings the green forward, and black suits an evening wing. Euphoria Makeup draws a bright violet wing, with a picture on hazel eyes.
- How do I test colours on my hazel eyes before buying them?
- Try them on a selfie first. Take one in daylight, pick a look or add a screenshot, and TryOnMyLook adds the makeup in about 20 seconds. Your eyes keep their own colour, so you see which shades pull out the green.
