Emo Makeup

Straight from the 2000s: heavy black kohl all the way around the eye, smudged into a smoky ring, a hint of pink on the lid and a pale nude lip.

When to wear it

Wear it to a gig, a festival or a 2000s-themed night, when you want black around the eyes and nothing polished. It is for you if you like clumpy mascara and a pale lip. The pictures show it on hooded blue eyes, on tan skin with downturned brown eyes and on deep skin.

Shades

  1. Eyessmudged black kohl
  2. Lidbright pink
  3. Contoursoft grey
  4. Lipspale nude-pink

How it's done

A matte base set with powder, soft grey contour under the cheekbones and no blush. Brows defined and filled. Thick black kohl drawn all the way around the eye, on the upper and lower lash lines and in both waterlines, then smudged out with a black shadow into a soft, smoky ring. A small flick at the outer corner. A touch of bright pink shadow blended just above the black on the outer half of the lid. Heavy, clumpy black mascara on the upper and lower lashes. Lips in a pale matte nude-pink.

Questions

How do I smudge kohl into a smoky ring?
Draw thick black kohl on both lash lines and in both waterlines. Then go over the pencil with a black shadow on a small smudge brush, working outward in short strokes until the edge softens into a ring.
Where does the pink go?
Just above the black, on the outer half of the lid. Blend a small amount of bright pink shadow there so it peeks out over the kohl. The rest of the face stays plain, with soft grey contour and no blush.
